Detailed Biography:

As Interim Co-President of the UCLA Faculty Practice Group, Dr. Patricia A. Kapur provides oversight of internal FPG activities, including physician billing and other physician-support activities, contracting and contract management, legal matters, oversight of the Community Physicians Network, risk-management approvals, clinical-services agreements for UCLA faculty physicians with other regional sites, IT priorities, ambulatory clinical activities, as well as other strategic input for FPG growth and development. Dr. Kapur also is Chair of the FPG Budget & Finance Committee, as well as the FPG Managed Care & Contracting Committee. Dr. Kapur earned her M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, and joined the UCLA faulty in 1981 following a research fellowship here in anesthesiology. She has been Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA since 1996, and Director of Perioperative Services for UCLA Health System since 1997. Dr. Kapur has served on many committees, task forces and work groups, and in addition to her other responsibilities she is Chair of the UCLA Medical Staff Operating Rooms Committee, serves on the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center Medical Staff Executive Committee, the Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital Medical Staff Surgery Committee, and on the Vice Chancellor's Strategy Group. She has served as President of the American Board of Anesthesiology, as President of the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research, as a member of the editorial board and Section Editor of Anesthesia & Analgesia, and as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the International Anesthesia Research Society. Dr. Kapur currently serves on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation, which was lauded by the Institute of Medicine for markedly changing the culture of safety and improving outcomes in anesthesiology care across the nation.
