Thomas Vallim, Ph.D.

A Short Biography:

Dr. Vallim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Chemistry and in the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology at UCLA. Dr. Vallim was born in Brazil and emigrated to England as a teenager. In England, Dr. Vallim received his M.Sci and Ph.D from the University of Nottingham. As an undergraduate Ph.D student, Dr. Vallim’s research focused was on the transcriptional regulation of genes in lipid metabolism by dietary factors. In 2008, Dr. Vallim came to UCLA for his post-doctoral studies in the laboratory of Peter Edwards. At UCLA, Dr. Vallim’s research was focused on identifying molecular mechanisms that underlie the regulation of bile acid metabolism, the major pathway of cholesterol excretion from the body. In 2013, Dr. Vallim was promoted to Assistant Professor in the Division of Cardiology at UCLA, and in 2016, Dr. Vallim also joined the Department of Biological Chemistry.
