Dr. Nguyen received her Medical Doctorate from David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and is a practicing cardiologist. She served as a housestaff in the Longcope Firm of the Osler Medicine training program at Johns Hopkins and completed her general cardiology fellowship at UCLA. She was recruited to the Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging Section at NHLBI and returned to UCLA in the fall of 2013. Her area of expertise is in cardiovascular imaging.
As an early career investigator, Dr. Nguyen's research focuses on the development and application of cardiovascular MRI techniques. Her work also intersects with wireless technology to integrate traditional and remote models of healthcare delivery. She collaborates with data scientist on the use of imaging data for advancement of precision medicine. Her scientific work has been published in leading imaging journals.
As an advocate for veterans' cardiovascular care, Dr. Nguyen developed and currently oversees the cardiac MRI program at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VA GLAHS). She collaborates with VA stakeholders and investigators to facilitate veterans' access to state-of-the art cardiac imaging technology and cardiovascular clinical trials. Dr. Nguyen also leads the telecardiology effort at VA GLAHS to improve veterans' access to cardiovascular care.
As a rising leader in healthcare, Dr. Nguyen is a commentator on issues relating to healthcare delivery in the VA system. Her writing has been published in the general media including Forbes and USA Today. Dr. Nguyen advocates for substantive contributions by physicians traversing university and VA medical centers.
