Alon Y. Avidan MD, MPH Dr. Avidan is Professor in the UCLA Department of Neurology at UCLA and Director of the UCLA Sleep Disorders Center. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from UCLA and then attended Medical School at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences where he also obtained a Master of Public Health. He subsequently completed his neurology Residency at the Georgetown University Medical Center, where he was Chief Resident. After residency, he completed a Fellowship in Sleep Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic .

Dr. Avidan is Professor of Neurology, UCLA Department of Neurology, Director of the UCLA Sleep Disorders Center and Immediate Past Chair of the Faculty Executive Committee (FEC) at the DGSOM
He completed his Neurology Residency at the Georgetown University Medical Center, and Fellowship in Sleep Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic. He was recently the 2014 American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) Excellence in Education Award, for career contributions to education in sleep medicine.
Dr. Avidan has published over 100 manuscripts on sleep disorders and had coauthored four books: “Handbook of Sleep Medicine,” “Geriatric Sleep Medicine,” “Review of Sleep Medicine” and Atlas of Clinical Sleep Medicine.” He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, the American Board of Sleep Medicine and a Diplomate in the Specialty of Sleep Medicine by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
His clinical interests include management of insomnia, sleep disordered breathing, restless legs syndrome, circadian rhythm disorders, geriatric sleep medicine and hypersomnia. He has a special interest in movement disorders of sleep, particularly the parasomnias and REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD).
