Description:

Mission Statement of the UCLA CFAR

Established in 1988, UCLA has one of the largest, most heterogeneous, and most productive CFARS in the nation, and our abundant strengths in basic, clinical, and behavioral research have led U.S. News and World Report 2007 to repeatedly rank UCLA among the top AIDS research facilities in the country. These unique assets enable the UCLA CFAR to pursue its primary mission on many fronts. Our mission is to create synergies among diverse research disciplines that result in significant breakthroughs in understanding, preventing and treating HIV infection.

Importance of the CFAR within the UCLA AIDS Institute

The UCLA AIDS Institute’s role is broad, encompassing everything from education to fund-raising, and reflects the institutional commitment to AIDS research at UCLA. The CFAR’s role is intentionally focused: it strongly supports the development of new and novel research approaches by fostering the formation of multidisciplinary collaborations and by making cost-effective, professionally staffed core facilities available to all UCLA AIDS researchers, as a way of providing them with immediate access to state-of-the-art scientific core facilities.
