Detailed Biography:

The Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Graduate Medical Education is responsible for medical student well-being and for the residency programs of the medical school. The student affairs aspect of the position involves all areas of student life at the medical school and representing the school in such matters in the Chancellor's Office and the University. In the area of graduate medical education, he is the Designated Institutional Officer to the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and other postgraduate accrediting bodies.

Responsibilities include:

  • Student Affairs
    • Overseeing the offices of Student Affairs, Admissions, Financial Aid, Academic Enrichment, Student Information Services, Outreach and Retention.
    • Chairing Admissions Committee
    • Chairing the Year 1, 2 and 3 & 4 Progress and Promotion committees
    • Representing Students Affairs to the Medical Education Committee and the Faculty Executive Committee
    • Coordinating student activities and promoting student well-being
    • Coordinating student affairs programs in the UCR/UCLA Thomas Haider Program in Biomedical Sciences and the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science
  • Graduate Medical Education
    • Overseeing the postgraduate ( residency and fellowship) programs of the medical school
    • Chairing the Graduate Medical Education Committee
    • Coordinating and acting as liaison with affiliated program Graduate Medical Education Committees and postgraduate programs
    • Overseeing the Graduate Medical Education office
    • Developing continuing education for residency program directors
    • Overseeing Institutional affiliations
