Research Interest:

Molecular mechanisms in metabolic diseases

Dr Peterfy's research focuses on common metabolic diseases associated with the Metabolic Syndrome including obesity, diabetes and dyslipidemia. Using molecular, cellular and in vivo approaches in mouse models, he investigates the genetic determinants and mechanisms underlying metabolic abnormalities. His current research focuses on genes responsible for hyperlipidemia in mouse models and human populations. Dr Peterfy's significant research contributions include the discovery and characterization of LMF1 and a novel molecular mechanism in hypertriglyceridemia.

Detailed Biography:

Dr Peterfy earned his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering and doctorate in molecular biology at Budapest University of Technology in Hungary. He was postdoctoral fellow at the National Institutes of Health and Research Scientist at Amgen, Inc. Dr Peterfy joined the UCLA School of Medicine faculty in 1998 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2007. He became faculty at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in 2007. Dr Peterfy is actively involved in undergraduate and graduate teaching at UCLA and CSMC.
