She serves as a consultant to the medical school faculty to facilitate the development of active learning interventions. and is a Problem Based Learning tutor for beginning medical students. Anju Relan is the Adjunct Professor of Medical Education at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She earned her doctorate in Curriculum and Instructional Systems, while specializing in Educational Technology, from the University of Minnesota in 1991. She joined the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA in 1996 as the Director of Instructional Design and Technolgy Unit, to provide leadership in novel ways of integrating technology in the four year medical school curriculum. She held this position till 2016. Under her leadership, the Unit successfully organized three Instructional Technology symposia for the medical school and UCLA faculty. Dr Relan has since then been serving as a consultant to the medical school faculty to facilitate the development of active learning interventions. She co-directed and taught in the two-year Medical Education Fellowship certificate program for School of medicine faculty until 2018. She is presently a Problem Based Learning tutor for beginning medical students and co-teaches in the interdisciplinary Systems Based Healthcare course offered to third year medical, dentistry and nursing students. She has presented and published actively in professional organizations nationally and internationally. Her scholarship has focused on designing and implementing effective active learning interventions, formative and summative assessments, and theories of teaching and learning.
