A Short Biography:
Dr. Bazargan is a Sociologist/Gerontologist with extensive training in filed of Research Methodology and Statistics. He earned his Ph.D. from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo and also holds Master and Bachelors degrees in Sociology and Demography from SUNY at Buffalo and University of Tehran, respectively. Dr. Bazargan's entire research activities have been concentrated on health related issues among underserved minority population. He has published extensively on health issues of elderly African American persons.
Dr. Bazargan has conducted several large population-based survey of health care utilization and health related issues among underserved minority. In a comprehensive study of health care and medication use among minority elderly, he conducted a large population based study that surveyed over 2,500 elderly African American persons. This study examined health status, mental health (depression, anxiety, sleeping disorder, perceived memory function, cognitive deficit, and psychological well-being), lifestyle and eating habits, smoking behaviors, attitude toward health and illness, health care utilization (prescription and over-the-counter medication use, physician visits, hospitalization, and emergency room utilization), and social support and social networks. Resulting form this has been several peer received published manuscripts in journals such as Journal of Gerontology, the Gerontologist, International Journal of Aging and Human Development, Journal of Aging and Health, Journal of Educational Gerontology, Journal of Applied Gerontology, Ophthalmic Epidemiology, and Journal of Black Psychologist.
Dr. Bazargan currently is the Principal Investigator (PI) of Healthy Communities Access Demonstration Program (HCAP) funded by Department of Health and Human Services (HRSA). In addition, he is co-investigator in four projects funded by NIH an HRSA. In addition, he is providing methodological and technical support and project evaluation services to several other investigators that are involved in research with intervention and evaluation components.
