A Short Biography:

Johnny C. Hong, MD, FACS, is associate professor-in- residence, Department of Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). Dr. Hong is certified by the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Hong is the Director, Multi-organ Transplantation and Hepatobiliary Surgery Fellowship Training Program; Director, Living Donor Liver Transplantation Program; and Director, Liver Transplantation Service at UCLA. Dr. Hong's clinical expertise focuses on liver transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery. His clinical areas of interest include surgical treatment of cholangiocarcinoma and hepatocellular carcinoma, living donor and split liver transplantation, donation after cardiac death liver transplantation, and transplant immunosuppression. Dr. Hong's laboratory research focuses on the development of a new treatment in organ resuscitation to mitigate the adverse of ischemia and reperfusion injury. Dr. Hong has developed a novel therapy, regulated hepatic reperfusion technique, to convert marginal organs, otherwise discarded, to transplantable livers in the hopes of decreasing the number of patient deaths while on the waitlist.
