<h2>Overview of Core </h2> <p>The Endocrine and Metabolic Research Laboratory supports clinical and translational investigators in many aspects of research through expertise in analytical testing and development of new methods. The Endocrine and Metabolic Research Laboratory is licensed by the State of California and holds CLIA certification. The laboratory participates in CAP Proficiency Test Program. </p> <p>The laboratory staff has over 30 years’ experience in such diverse fields as hormonal and metabolic parameters analyses and clinical chemistry. It has provided services to a number of other CTSA centers (UCI, University of New Mexico) as well as research centers outside of the CTSA domain. </p> <h2>Core Laboratory Resources </h2> <ul> <li>Liquid Chromatographic Tandem Mass Spectrometry instruments (LC-MS/MS API 5000 and API 5500)</li> <li>Gamma and beta counters</li> <li>Spectrophotometer</li> <li>Fluorometer</li> <li>Plate reader</li> </ul> <h2>Services Available to ALL Investigators </h2> <p> <strong>Sample Analysis:</strong> : Over forty different procedures are offered through the Endocrine and Metabolic Research Laboratory utilizing a variety of techniques including radioimmunoassay, fluoroimmunoassay, fluorometry and LC-MS/MS. Semen analyses and special andrological testing are available in the Andrology laboratory. </p> <p> <strong>Consultation Services</strong> : The Lab Director (Victor Goh, PhD) and Supervisor (Mr. Andrew Leung) are available to help investigators design and initiate protocols using the most relevant procedures available and ensure that all laboratory data are reported with confidentiality and accuracy. The laboratory is networked with other CTSA Laboratories providing investigators with a wide range of testing capabilities. Mr. Leung provides specialized consultation on semen analyses and centralized service for sperm morphology analyses. </p> <h2>Staffing </h2> <p>The lab staff is highly qualified and includes a laboratory supervisor, the lab manager with a BSMT degree, two licensed medical technologists and two research associates. The paradigm of working of the Endocrine and Metabolic Research Laboratory is based on a “fee-for-service” format. The following table lists the analytes and cost per test.
